WAFCON 2024: Ghana’s Black Queens faces South Africa for 3rd place

The Black Queens of Ghana are poised and set to take on defending champions, South Africa, for third place in the 2024 WAFCON Championship.
Black Queens forward Stella Nyamekye disclosed that the players are “mentally prepared” for the South African side after a heartbreaking defeat to Morocco in the semi-finals
Ghana suffered a defeat to host nation Morocco after a 1-1 draw in regulation time that took them to an extra time and penalty shoot-out of 4-2.
Ghana was hoping to secure the title for the first time after making it to the semi-finals.
“We have prepared very well for this game,” Stella said. “Per the training we have had, we are mentally prepared for this game.”
Head Coach of the Black Queens, Kim Lars Bjorkegren, reiterated their readiness to face South Africa. “We had a group of coaches, staff members, and players who were really disappointed but back on track again and focused on the next game. We want to do the best we can to win it.”
South Africa lost to nine-time champions Nigeria by 2-1 at the semi-finals.
Gaffer Desiree Ellis of South Africa also revealed that their side is bringing their all to the game and not return home without anything.
Ghana and South Africa will play at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca on Friday, July 25, 2025.
