Vybz Kartel Opens Up About His Decision To Stop Bleaching

Dancehall titan, Vybz Kartel has disclosed the reason for his decision to stop bleaching in a candid interview with popular American host, Ebro Darden.

Vybz Kartel disclosed this during the Hot 97 radio show citing self-confidence issues as one of the reasons he started bleaching.

The dancehall musician is known for his physique covered in tattoos, lively and up-tempo music, and a complexion that is not original to his natural skin tone.

He revealed that the decision to bleach stemmed from his desire to ensure that his tattoos were visibly clearer. “My mind was telling me, ‘I am doing this to show my tattoos’… I got a lot of tattoos,” he admitted candidly.

Delving deeper into the subject, he also indicated that there was a reason beyond the surface that influenced his decision to start bleaching. He attributed it to self-confidence issues.

“In hindsight, it definitely had to do with self-love. As a Black man, sometimes we have those issues. But I would never bleach again though,” he revealed.

Vybz Kartel now confidently refers to himself as “fully melanated.” By this, Vybz Kartel has demonstrated and added to the call for embracing natural forms.  

The dancehall legend is set to take the stage at Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, New York on April 11th, promising dancehall lovers a live musical experience they have been missing out on for two decades.
