UPSA Student Dragged out of Class for “Improper Dressing”

University of Professional Studies
An incident at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has caused a public uproar after many students were sacked from class for allegedly flouting the institution’s dress code policy.
This new directive took effect on July 1, 2025, after a formal warning from the university management on Wednesday, July 2025. A designated task force, along with some lecturers, removed the students from campus, an action which has prompted wide conversations among netizens and the general public.

A viral video captured a female student identified as being in level 100 escorted off aggressively by a man known to be a lecturer in the school. The reactions to this incident have been varied. While some people have condemned clear aggression with which the lecturer escorted the female student, as seen in the video, some people have also claimed that it was about time students fully adhered to the rules and regulations they find themselves in.
Students have expressed their frustration about the exercise with one student stating that she was sacked for wearing leather slippers. Another also complained that she had missed a test due to this new directive.
The situation at UPSA raised a big conversation about the balance between maintaining a professional environment and respecting students’ rights to express themselves through their clothing choices.
