UPSA Condemns Staff Misconduct in Viral Altercation with Student

The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has publicly addressed a viral confrontation between a staff member and a first-year student over dress code enforcement. In a statement released by the university, the staff member’s behavior was described as “unacceptable” and issued a formal apology to the student after an internal review.
The statement added that the Vice-Chancellor has personally apologized to the affected student. The staff member followed with a written statement of regret. UPSA also announced plans to retrain its dress code enforcement team and review current procedures to ensure fairness and professionalism.
The incident has since sparked conversations among students and stakeholders who have all shared different views about it. While some shared in the vision of the school, others condemned how it was handled. The University management however, reaffirmed the importance of its dress code in shaping professional standards while acknowledging the need for respectful communication.
The student involved has also wrote to the university expressing regret for her involvement and hope the episode leads to improved dialogue and understanding on campus.
