The Ghana Police Service has taken two people into custody over a viral TikTok video in which a woman allegedly threatens to kill President John Mahama before the end of 2025 and behead First Lady Lordina Mahama.
The suspects identified as Prince Ofori and Yayra Abiwu were arrested on Tuesday, August 12, and are assisting police with investigations. Police confirmed that the footage, which has been widely shared on social media, contains explicit threats made in Twi by a female voice.
According to the police, the arrests form part of a broader operation to track down others believed to be connected to the video.
This development has raised more conversation about cyberbullying and the abuse of social media platforms for incitement and threatening of high-profile individuals. The Ghana Police Service has assured its commitment to ensuring the safety of the President, his family, and all citizens.
Authorities have also urged the public to keep calm and trust the police to fully investigate the case and ensure that all the individuals involved in this are brought to book and made to face the music.
