Cloth dealer drag businessman to court for stealing his GH¢490,600.00

Solomon Okechukwu, a Nigerian businessman who runs a thriving secondhand clothing business across Accra, Togo, and beyond, claims his employee Desmond Theke embezzled ¢490,600.00.
In 2024, Okechukwu hired Desmond Theke, a Ghanaian salesman, to manage his shop and sales.
The complainant imported around 240-foot containers of clothes for his business and also sent money to Theke to keep the shop stocked.

But when Solomon came for a routine stock check in June 2025, Theke couldn’t explain where a huge amount of goods and money had gone.
As a result, Solomon reported the matter to the police. An audit and witness statements revealed that Desmond allegedly stole GH¢490,600.
The case is now before the Dansoman Circuit Court. Desmond has pleaded not guilty, but he’s been granted bail with conditions like surrendering his Ghana Card and regularly checking in with the police.

The judge, Madam Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit, instructed the prosecution to file all disclosures and witness statements for the case management conference on August 25.
The judge held that the case could not be referred to Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) since the case involves a felon. However, both parties could try to settle out of court if they agree.
