Renowned Ghanaian rapper Michael Owusu Addo has provided up-and-coming artists a profound piece of advice: not to relent based on feedback from others but to work consistently to produce the best content they can for their core audience.
On May 1, 2025, the legendary rapper poured out to up-and-coming artists some of the challenges in the music industry.
He stated that young artists should avoid using comments and feedback from others to assess their careers. Instead, they should work harder at honing their craft and be consistent in their output of quality content.
“To all up and coming musicians. This era is a bit crazy because you feed off instant feedback to assess your career but that ain’t realistic and I know it’s almost impossible to do otherwise but you have to try,” he stated.
Sarkodie added, “just keep your head under the water and keep going. Most importantly make sure you enjoy your art. Not every song will be huge on the airwaves but that means nothing just make good art for your core audience and stay consistent!”
In the creative industry, just like many other industries, it is very easy to give up one’s creativity when the desired results are not achieved. Sarkodie’s words come in time to uplift up-and-coming artists or any other person within the creative space, not to give up on their craft but to work hard and be consistent with what they do.
