Sammy Gyamfi sues Afia Schwarzenegger for defamation, seeks GH¢10m in damages

Sammy Gyamfi sues Afia Schwarzenegger
Sammy Gyamfi, Chief Executive Officer of Goldbod and National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has filed a lawsuit against media personality Valentina Nana Agyeiwaa, widely known as Afia Schwarzenegger. He is seeking GH¢10 million in damages for the alleged “defamatory claims” made against him.
The lawsuit was filed at an Accra High Court on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, after a series of allegations suggesting that Mr. Gyamfi purchased the property in the United States for his wife or her supposed sister. Mr. Gyamfi refutes these claims, describing them as “unfounded and malicious.”
Furthermore, Mr. Gyamfi asserts that the supposed woman referred to in the claims as his wife’s sister, named Vida, does not exist.
He adds that any genuine attempt at fact-checking would have established this. He further refutes assertions that he has been romantically involved with students of the University of Ghana or that he purchased vehicles for any alleged girlfriends.
According to the suit, the publications in question were either knowingly false or published with reckless disregard for the truth. Mr. Gyamfi argues that the statements were deliberately aimed at tarnishing his image and portraying him as morally unfit.
Mr. Gyamfi noted that the allegations have burdened him with relentless calls and uncomfortable questions from senior political figures, party members, family, and colleagues both locally and internationally.
The legal action seeks not only monetary compensation but also aims to protect his reputation and send a clear message against the spread of misinformation.
