Chief Justice, Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo
President John Dramani Mahama has consulted with the Council of State after receiving petitions to remove the current Chief Justice, Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo.
A statement issued by the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu revealed that the three petitions have been relayed to the Council of State, as per the provisions outlined in the 1992 constitution of Ghana in Article 146.

As of now, no details regarding the petitions have been provided but this development hints at a start of a journey to reform Ghana’s judicial system.
The Council of State has therefore been tasked with the responsibility of analyzing the petitions and providing suggestions to the President regarding the matter.
However, the steps taken must follow the provisions outlined in the 1992 Constitution regarding the removal of a Chief Justice.
