Prez. Mahama Calls For Swift Action On Coastal Defense After Visit To Volta Region

President Mahama visits communities plagued by severe tidal waves
President John Dramani Mahama visited Salakope, Agavedzi, and Amutsinu on 6th March 2025 to assess the wreckage caused by severe tidal waves.
Upon assessing the dire situation, he sympathized with residents and assured them that the government was dedicated to bringing some much-needed relief to them immediately.

President Mahama recognized the urgency of the situation and stressed that the Keta Sea Defense Project needs to be completed as a holistic approach to tackle the crisis.
He promised government support to secure and provide resources needed for coastal defense interventions.
Severe tidal waves in these communities have resulted in displacement, loss of homes, and hardship.
President Mahama has also tasked the finance minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson to designate funds for the commencement of Phase 2 of the Blekusu Sea Defence Project.
He reiterated that this step is prudent in tackling the current tidal wave crisis in the Volta region.
