President Mahama Swears in Council of State Members

President John Mahama presided over the swearing-in ceremony for the newly appointed and elected members of the Council of State at Jubilee House. The ceremony marked the official induction of the esteemed individuals, who will serve as a council of elders and providing wisdom, guidance, and oversight to the presidency.
Former Speaker of Parliament, Edward Korbly Doe Adjaho was sworn in as the Chairman of the Council of State. He pledged to address the criticisms often leveled against the council and to prove its functional necessity in his openeing remarks. He said in the address, “We are determined to ensure that the Council of State plays a pivotal role in the governance of our nation.”

The newly appointed members of the Council of State include; Sophia Akuffo; former Chief Justice, Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan; Former Inspector General of Police, Michael Samson-Oje , former Chief of Defence Staff and Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi; President of the National House of Chiefs

Each member brings a wealth of experience and expertise to their roles, ensuring a diverse and well-rounded council.
President Mahama tasked the new members with the responsibility of addressing any perceptions that the Council of State is unsatisfactory or irrelevant. He said, “I have full confidence in the ability of the new council to turn things around and provide the necessary guidance and oversight that our nation requires.” The President also highlighted the importance of the council in fostering unity and stability within the country.
President Mahama also reiterated the importance of the council in promoting unity and stabilityin the country.

The newly appointed members also expressed their gratitude to the president and commitment to their roles. They made a pledged to work tirelessly to uphold the principles of justice, integrity, and service.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by various dignitaries, including government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and representatives from civil society organizations. The event marked a significant milestone in the governance of Ghana, with high hopes for the new Council of State to make a meaningful impact.
