Sammy Gyamfi, President Mahama
President John Dramani Mahama has responded to the controversy surrounding Ghana Gold Board CEO Sammy Gyamfi gifting Evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah an amount purported to be 800 dollars in a viral video.
The said video had gained a significant amount of traction and prompted public outrage. Members of the Minority caucus in Parliament, as well as civil society organizations, called for the immediate dismissal of Sammy Gyamfi from his position.
According to many, the act went against the country’s Foreign Exchange Act and was also considered a breach of the Code of Conduct instituted in the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.
In light of these debates, President Mahama has announced his decision on the matter. As his response, President Mahama has acknowledged Sammy Gyamfi’s apology and stated that no other actions will be taken against him.
The Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, made this announcement at a press briefing, stating that the president acknowledges and accepts Sammy Gyamfi’s immediate apology and has decided to put the situation to bed.
Nonetheless, the President also cautioned Sammy Gyamfi and all other public office holders to be mindful of their acts, as they may have damaging reflections or implications for public perceptions.
In addition, Honourable Felix Kwakye stressed President Mahama’s relentless dedication to accountability and good governance, further cautioning that future breaches of conduct will not be taken lightly.
