PNP petitions EOCO over C78m Govt Communication Office allocation

The People’s National Party (PNP) has formally petitioned the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to investigate what it describes as an “unprecedented” budgetary allocation of GHC78 million to the Office of Government Communication, headed by Minister Felix Ofosu Kwakye.
The petition, dated Monday, September 8, and addressed to EOCO’s Executive Director, Raymond Acher, argues that the allocation captured in the 2025 national budget raises serious concerns about transparency, accountability, and prudent use of public funds.
According to the PNP, the Office of Government Communication is not recognised as a ministry but has been allocated more resources than the Ministry of Information, which previously supervised six agencies.
The petition notes that Mr. Ofosu Kwakye’s office currently oversees only three agencies, and the party is demanding clarification on which agencies these are, how they were reassigned, and the budgets they operated with before the restructuring.
The party further alleged that part of the allocation could be directed to selected media organisations, civil society groups, and influential individuals to promote the ruling National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) political agenda.
In a statement, the party’s Founder and Leader, Janet Asana Nabla, stressed that the request is not politically motivated but aimed at ensuring accountability in the use of public resources. She urged EOCO to conduct a thorough investigation, obtain a detailed financial breakdown of the GHC78 million, and make its findings public.
The PNP maintained that such scrutiny is necessary, particularly at a time when the country is facing economic hardship, youth unemployment, poor infrastructure, and underfunded public institutions.
“We voted for leaders to serve Ghana, not to enrich themselves or entrench political control through questionable funding strategies,” the petition stated.
