Petition Against Mahama Appointments at NFA

In a change.org petition, the Association of Ghanaian Creatives has petitioned President John Dramani Mahama to revoke the appointments of Kafui Danku and James Gardiner to the National Film Authority (NFA).
President Mahama appointed Kafui Danku as the Executive Secretary of the NFA and James Gardiner was appointed as her Deputy. The petitioners argue that neither Kafui Danku nor James Gardiner possess the necessary industry experience or expertise to lead the NFA effectively.
Part of the petition read, “We, the undersigned members of the Association of Ghanaian Creatives, urge the government to appoint qualified, visionary leadership at the NFA. The institution must be helmed by a technocrat with deep industry knowledge, supported by a board of experienced creative professionals who can steer the sector toward revitalization and global competitiveness.”
The Association rather proposed several alternative candidates for the positions, including George Bosompin from the National Film Institute (GAFTA), Jim Awindor, a film and television strategist, Akofa Edjeani Asiedu, and veteran filmmaker and policy maker Professor Linus Abraham.
However, responding to the petition, Academy of Film and Television Arts (GAFTA) has stated that they are not aware of the petition and have disassociated themselves from it.
Meanwhile, outgoing NFA Executive Secretary Juliet Yaa Asantewaa Asante has also recounted numerous challenges she faced during her tenure which includes financial constraints and lack of support.
