OSP removes Ken Ofori-Atta from wanted list

Ex-finance Minister, Ken-Ofori Atta, OSP Kissi Agyebeng
In a recent development, the Office of the Special Prosecutor has formally removed ex-finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta from its list of wanted persons after receiving confirmation on his scheduled return to Ghana in May 2025. This recent development follows questions about his whereabouts and his alleged refusal to cooperate in ongoing investigations, which resulted in the OSP declaring him as a fugitive of justice.
The former finance minister has been under investigation for his alleged involvement in financial misconduct during his tenure. Ken Ofori-Atta is being investigated for issues related to the National Cathedral project, the ambulance deal, and contracts involving the Ghana Revenue Authority. His unavailability, reportedly due to medical reasons, and the lack of a definite return date compelled the OSP to take legal action.
Ken Ofori Atta’s legal team had communicated a particular date for his return on February 18, 2025, and also assured the OSP of Ofori Atta’s dedication to cooperate with the ongoing investigations. The OSP has acknowledged Ofori Atta’s response deeming the proposed return date as reasonable and even agreed to reschedule his interview date accordingly. Following this development, Ofori Atta has been taken off the OSP’s wanted list hence, is no longer a fugitive of the law.
However, the OSP has sounded a caution, making it very clear that if Ofori-Atta fails to hold his end of the bargain as proposed, he will once again be enlisted as a fugitive of the law and if that happens, all necessary legal actions would be taken against him to ensure his cooperation.
The public and political stakeholders alike have been monitoring this developing story as it involves a high-profile figure in Ghana’s political landscape. Citizens are bent on Ofori-Atta returning to the country to answer for any financial misconduct he might have been involved in during his tenure. This highlights the citizens’ quickness to call out corruption and make sure it sets a precedent for future political position holders.
The entire nation waits with bated breath hoping for Ofori-Atta to return and answer these prudent questions so that these corruption allegations can be dealt with once and for all.
