NPP petitions Speaker of Parliament Over “Attempted Arrest” of MP Ntim Fordjour

MP Ntim Fordjour
The Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Alban Bagbin has been petitioned by the Minority Caucus in parliament concerning a disregard for parliamentary protocols.
The New Patriotic Party expressed strong disapproval in this petition about the alleged arrest attempt by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) on Member of Parliament, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour.
The petition signed by the Minority Chief Whip, Hon. Annoh-Dompreh argues that the alleged attempt to arrest Rev. John Ntim Fordjour violated the dignity and sanctity of Parliament.

The minority in the said petition references utterances by the Speaker, which suggested that MPs should be approached through the appropriate channels when matters of investigation or other serious issues arise.
Articles 117 and 118 of the 1992 Constitution instituted these protocols: protocols that mandate the appropriate channels to be taken with matters relating to investigating MPs.
The Minority further argued that similar arrest attempts were made on MPs Yagaba Kubori, Hon. Mustapha Usif, and Hon. Kwame Asare Obeng.
According to the Minority, actions of this sort pose a threat to the principle of separation of powers.
Hon. Alban Bagbin has been urged to take the necessary steps to make sure that earlier instituted protocols are upheld to a tee to ensure that the Constitution and its provisions are upheld.
