The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially opened nominations for the party’s flagbearer aspirants ahead of its primary elections in January 2026.
The party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, made this known at a press briefing in Accra today, pegging the nomination form at GH₵100,000 and a final filing fee also set at GH₵500,000.
This announcement sets a precedent for a high-stakes internal election that will determine which of its members will be leading them into the 2028 general elections.
“I’m happy to announce to you that we have officially opened nominations for our party members to become presidential candidates of our party for the 2028 elections,” the General Secretary said.
The NPP’s calendar now sets today, July 29, 2025, as the beginning of filing nominations, which is expected to close after a month on Thursday, August 28, 2025. Whereas the presidential primaries are slated for January 31, 2026.
According to the party, the reason for selecting a flagbearer two years before the 2028 elections is a strategic move that will allow the flagbearer to adequately prepare for the elections and also unite party members and ranks after a potential chilling primaries.
