Nollywood Actress Omoni Oboli Issues Stern Warning to Ghanaian TV Stations Over Copyright Violations

Actress, Omoni Oboli
Popular Nollywood actress, Omoni Oboli has expressed her displeasure at Ghanaian TV stations for airing her movies without obtaining legal permission. She took to social media to express her dissatisfaction.
The actress did not mince her words as she called out the culprits in a strongly worded Instagram post. She condemned the act of televising her movies without any form of approval and also called out the Ghana National Film Authority for failing to take action against the perpetrators of this recurring issue.
Oboli questioned the efficiency of the television authority in Ghana but was also quick to add that she was not concerned about that.
She also mentioned taking legal steps to make sure every television station that aired any of her movies without her approval would be made to face the legal repercussions.
It is about time the rights of these creatives were respected. As noted by Oboli, it takes a lot of time, resources, hard-work and dedication to produce these films. Hence, it is only fair that the efforts and toils of these creatives are appreciated.
She remarked “I love my Ghanaian besties, colleagues, and friends, but you see those TV stations in Ghana, I’m coming for you! The guts to show my movies without licensing!”
Oboli added, “You have no idea how much work goes into these projects. The sleepless nights I have! I’m coming for it all! You will pay for every one of my movies you have shown without permission! In 2025, you don’t understand that’s IP theft?”

This development adds to the growing concerns mostly raised by Nigerian creatives about the practice of Ghanaian TV stations airing movies without obtaining the proper legal authority.
Renowned Nollywood actress and movie producer Ruth Kadiri also issued a similar caution to Ghanaian TV stations who were fond of broadcasting her movies without licensing. She also threatened legal action.
