‘No suspended projects in Ghana’ – World Bank

The World Bank has issued a statement dispelling all speculations about its funded projects in Ghana.
In the brief statement released earlier today, the financial institution unequivocally stated that “No projects in the World Bank-financed portfolio in Ghana are currently suspended.”
The bank made this clarification to counter recent reports and concerns that suggested that a number of World Bank-backed projects in Ghana have been brought to a halt as a result of financial or governance issues.
The statement reassures all stakeholders, including government agencies, developmental partners and beneficiaries, that all projects covered by the World Bank in the country remain active and operational.
As a major development partner of Ghana, the World Bank has funded many projects across sveral sectors of the country including infrastructure, healthcare, education, energy and agriculture.
Disruption to any of these projects could have implications on the economy and even affect livelihoods, delivery of essential services, and Ghana’s developmental goals as a whole.
The statement hopes to ease the uncertainty of its projects in the country as Ghana is currently navigating through a phase of economic recovery under the new Mahama administration.
While the statement did explicitly state the Bank’s reasons for the issuance, recent conversations and reports and political debates questioning the country’s financial dealings necessitated such address.
As Ghana proceeds with its economic recovery agenda, maintaining a good relationship with the World Bank would ensure successful execution of development projects.
