Nkwanta SHS head suspended for soliciting food for WASSCE students

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has suspended Solomon Sarpong Bagmae, the Headmaster of Nkwanta Senior High School (SHS), for soliciting public support to feed final-year students participating in the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School.
In a statement sighted by Thenewsgod.com, the Service directed the Headmaster of Nkwanta Senior High School in the Nkwanta South Municipality, Solomon Sarpong Bagmae, to step aside from his duties with immediate effect.
The Ghana Education Service in the press release issued by the Acting Oti Regional Director of Education, Mrs Irene Jacqueline Attabra, said the action is to allow for an independent and objective investigation into the matter.
The directive follows allegations that Mr Bagmae engaged the media without authorisation on August 4, 2025, during which he reportedly solicited public support for feeding students taking part in the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
“I am directed by the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service to instruct you to step aside from your duties as Headmaster of Nkwanta Senior High School, Nkwanta South Municipality, with immediate effect.
“This directive follows your alleged unauthorised media engagement on August 4, 2025, during which you reportedly solicited public support for the feeding of students during the ongoing WASSCE without prior approval,” a letter to Mr Solomon stated.
Mr Solomon Bagmae is said to have expressed concern about the well-being of Nkwanta SHS students preparing for their final examinations — a move the Ghana Education Service (GES) described as inappropriate.
“The claim that there has been a ‘surge in candidate numbers’ at these schools is entirely false. The relocation of students was a controlled, planned action, and the numbers were well-known and accounted for.
The assertion that food supply has been ‘overwhelmed’ is a blatant lie, as a comprehensive and ongoing support system has been put in place by the government and relevant stakeholders,” the part of the Service statement noted.
Mr Bagmae has been instructed to cease all official duties, refrain from making public statements on the issue, and hand over all school property and administrative responsibilities to the Regional Director of Education.
“You are further required to hand over all school property and administrative responsibilities to the Regional Director of Education immediately, pending the outcome of the investigation,” the letter said.
It added, “We find it deeply disturbing that a headmaster, who is a key figure in the consultative process, would be making such a baseless appeal. This report is a clear attempt to create a false narrative of government inaction and to generate public panic where none is warranted.”
The Ghana Education Service (GES), under the auspices of the Ministry of Education (MoE), amid the suspension of the Nkwanta Senior High School headmaster, says it will communicate further instructions in due course.
