Morocco faces NIgeria in WAFCON final
Host nation Morocco booked their place in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final with a tense victory over Ghana, emerging triumphant 4–2 in a penalty shootout following a 1–1 draw in regulation time.
Ghana struck first in the 26th minute after Khadija Er‑Rmichi parried a header from Josephine Bonsu onto the post, only for Stella Nyamekye to follow up and score. Morocco responded in the 55th minute when Sakina Ouzraoui controlled the ball with her chest before slotting it past diving goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan.
Neither side could find a winner through extra time, leading to a penalty shootout in Rabat’s Olympic Stadium, where Morocco held their nerve to prevail 4–2.
In the earlier semi-final in Casablanca, Nigeria’s Super Falcons defeated defending champions South Africa 2–1, thanks to a stoppage-time strike from Michelle Alozie securing Nigeria’s spot in Saturday’s final.
The Morocans are chasing their first WAFCON title after finishing runners-up in 2022, while Nigeria are aiming to add another crown to their impressive nine titles.
The final showdown is this Saturday with Morocco vs Nigeria.
