Military helicopter crash kills eight after catching fire in Ashanti region

A military helicopter crash has claimed the lives of eight individuals after catching fire at Adansi Sikaman in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, several local media outlets in the country have reported.
The victims, who are yet to be officially identified, are believed to be top government officials traveling to a programme in Obuasi.
The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of August 6, 2025. Eyewitnesses described the scene as horrific, with the helicopter reportedly catching fire upon impact.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) helicopter, identified as a Z-9, has reportedly gone off the radar after taking off on the morning of Wednesday, August 6, 2025. The aircraft was headed to Obuasi when contact was lost.
In a brief statement, the Ghana Armed Forces confirmed that efforts are underway to trace the missing helicopter and re-establish communication.
According to initial reports, the aircraft was carrying a total of eight people—three crew members and five passengers. Authorities have not yet released the full list of individuals on board.
The Ghana Armed Forces, along with other relevant agencies, are expected to provide further updates as investigations continue.
