Mercy Johnson slams Blazing TV for ‘The Firstborn’ movie illegal show

Acclaimed Nigerian actress Mercy Johnson has publicly called out a Ghanaian television station, Blazing TV, for allegedly broadcasting her newly produced The Firstborn movie without proper authorization.
In a post shared on Instagram on July 19, 2025, the Nollywood star accused Blazing TV, a local Ghanaian broadcaster, of airing her latest film, The Firstborn, without obtaining any consent to do so.
“Ghana Blazing TV. How is this even okay? Blazing TV in Ghana is showing my movie, The Firstborn, without my consent. How does this even make sense? How?” she wrote, adding in the caption, “I am shocked at the audacity of it all.”
Mercy Johnson’s comments add to a growing list of similar concerns raised by Nigerian filmmakers regarding unauthorized broadcasts by Ghanaian media outlets. In recent months, fellow Nollywood actors Omoni Oboli and Bimbo Ademoye have also issued warnings to Ghanaian stations that have aired their content without permission.
Both Oboli and Ademoye have threatened legal action should such practices continue.
A few days after Bimbo Ademoye’s complaints, Ghana’s Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Sam Nartey George, along with the Chief Executive Officer of the National Film Authority, issued a response, assuring her that appropriate steps would be taken to protect her intellectual property.
Sam George also assured that the Ghanaian government remains resolute in protecting intellectual property rights.
