Mahama swears in Armed Forces Council Members

President John Mahama has sworn in the newly appointed members of the Ghana Armed Forces Council on Monday March 24, 2025 at a ceremony at the Jubilee House. The Council is responsible for advising the President on defense policy, military administration, and operational readiness, now includes several high-profile individuals.
Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang was appointed as the Chairperson of the Council, charged to ensure that the Armed Forces remain a disciplined and effective institution that is capable of defending the nation’s sovereignty and contributing to regional and global peacekeeping efforts.
The Vice President, in her address highlighted the importance of modernizing the military, enhancing its operational capabilities, and ensuring that it remains a trusted and respected institution. The other members are Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, Daniel Addo, Fuseini Iddrisu, and Nancy Dakwa Ampofo.

President Mahama also urged the newly sworn in members to be proactive to identify and address any emerging security threat. He stated that any the council makes will shape the future of the Armed Forces and therefore, therefore imperative that they approach the job with wisdom and integrity and deep commitment to national service.
“In today’s world, the nature of our security threats are rapidly evolving. From terrorism and cybercrime to political instability and climate-related security challenges.”
The new Council members have been charged to bring their diverse expertise to bear, ensuring that the Ghana Armed Forces continue to play a vital role in national and international security.
