President Mahama replaces 2 Ministers killed in Military aircraft crash

Following the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Ghana’s substantive Defence and Environment ministers, the Presidency has announced the appointment of two acting ministers to temporarily oversee the vacant portfolios.
President John Dramani Mahama has tasked the Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, with additional duties as the acting Minister for Defence. At the same time, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Kofi Armah Buah, will also take on responsibilities as acting Minister for Environment, Science and Technology.
The dual appointments follow Wednesday’s fatal crash, which occurred as the late ministers were travelling to an official engagement in Obuasi. The exact cause of the incident remains unknown, and a formal investigation has since been launched.
In an official release, Minister for Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, communicated the President’s condolences to the families of the victims and emphasized the administration’s commitment to maintaining uninterrupted leadership across all sectors.
“These temporary appointments are to ensure there is no vacuum in critical areas of national security and environmental policy,” the statement read.
“The President has full confidence in the capacity and experience of both ministers to steer their respective additional portfolios during this difficult time.”
Both appointees are expected to begin their new duties with immediate effect as the nation continues to mourn the loss of two senior members of government.
