Mahama names Ghanaian-korean Ghana’s Ambassador to South Korea

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Ghanaian-Korean businessman Kojo Choi, also known as Atta Kojo Choi, as the Republic of Ghana’s Ambassador-designate to the Republic of South Korea.
Kojo Choi’s appointment as Ghana’s Ambassador to South Korea was contained in a letter signed by the Secretary to the President, Callistus Mahama, and addressed to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
The announcement, made on July 24, 2025, is part of a broader diplomatic reshuffle involving several new ambassadors to countries including Italy, Hungary, Namibia, and Saudi Arabia.
The appointments were made following consultations with the Council of State and aim to strengthen Ghana’s diplomatic presence in key global regions.
Among the prominent figures nominated are former Minister and respected economist Mona Helen Kabuki Quartey, who has been tapped to head Ghana’s mission in the Italian Republic, and seasoned energy expert Dr. Kwame Ampofo, designated for Hungary.
Also included in the list is veteran politician Paul Evans Aidoo, heading to Kenya, and former Deputy Speaker of Parliament Magnus Kofi Amoatey, named as Ghana’s envoy to the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The nominees are as follows:
1. Alhaji Abdul-Rahman Harruna Attah – Ambassador-designate to the Republic of Namibia
2. Kojo Choi – Ambassador-designate to the Republic of South Korea
3. Dr. Kwame Ampofo – Ambassador-designate to Hungary
4. Mona Helen Kabuki Quartey – Ambassador-designate to the Italian Republic
5. Magnus Kofi Amoatey – Ambassador-designate to the Democratic Republic of the Congo
6. Kenneth Akibate – Ambassador-designate to Burkina Faso
7. Said Saleh Sinare – Ambassador-designate to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
8. Paul Evans Aidoo – High Commissioner-designate to the Republic of Kenya
The Presidency has instructed relevant agencies to initiate the formal processes to facilitate the appointments.
These nominations are expected to undergo further vetting and confirmation procedures in line with constitutional protocols.
