KIC Collaborates with FDA to support Food Innovation Start-ups in Ghana

KIC and FDA partnership
The Kosmos Innovation Center has collaborated with Ghana’s Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) with hopes of supporting and promoting young entrepreneurs in the food innovation field.
This partnership came about as a strategic means of bridging the gap between innovative food products and stringent regulatory requirements, assisting start-ups in Ghana to satisfy the highest safety and quality standards.
KIC and FDA will provide guidance, training, and mentorship to assist start-ups in managing the frequently complicated FDA certification process.

The goal is that by doing so, they are facilitating an easier path for young entrepreneurs to bring their food items to market, a step that would improve growth and competitiveness.
Benjamin Gyan-Kesse, KCI’s Executive Director stressed the importance of this relationship at the MOU signing ceremony. “By supporting start-ups to achieve FDA certification, we are ensuring that their products meet global standards, and create access to new markets and opportunities while safeguarding the health and safety of consumers.
He added, “This partnership will also help to establish mentorship and advisory sessions that align food innovation with regulatory excellence.”
Dr. Delese Mimi Darko, CEO of the FDA also stressed the Authority’s commitment to ensure the success of this initiative. “As regulators with a difference, the FDA is not only focused on enforcement but also on empowering MSMEs to meet compliance standards and bring their products to market with ease. This commitment is embodied in our Progressive Licensing Scheme,” she said.
This new partnership between KIC and FDA reflects an intentional effort to foster creativity, entrepreneurship, and sustainable growth for young entrepreneurs.
This joint effort in the long run will ensure a new era of food innovation in Ghana.
