Kennedy Agyapong picks NPP presidential primaries nomination form

On Tuesday, August 5, a group of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament picked up nomination forms on behalf of Kennedy Agyapong, signaling his official entry into the party’s presidential race set for January 31, 2026.
The team included familiar faces within the party; Kwaku Kwarteng, MP for Obuasi West; Charles Forson, MP for Tema West; Stephen Amoah of Nhyiaeso; and Lawrence Agyinsam, representing Hemang Lower Denkyira. They were joined by Dr. Alex Ampaabeng, a former Deputy Minister for Finance, who has thrown his weight behind Agyapong, describing him as the leader best suited to steer both the NPP and Ghana forward.
With the race heating up, party insiders say it is becoming clearer where the political lines are being drawn and which figures are throwing their support behind the key contenders.
Kennedy Agyapong, who placed second to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the party’s last flagbearer contest ahead of the 2024 elections, is now the first to officially take this step for the 2026 primaries. It is a move that speaks not only to his ambition but also to the strategic planning already underway as the party eyes the 2028 general elections.
