Husband shoots wife over alleged ‘cheating’ after 10 years of marriage

A man allegedly shot his wife in the early hours of Sunday morning over suspicions of infidelity in the community of Anum in Assin North District.
The victim, 35-year-old Faustina Ackom, was shot by her 41-year-old husband, Wahibu Bukari, during a violent confrontation at their home.
According to local sources and police reports, the attack occurred around 12:30 a.m. on August 17, after Bukari reportedly discovered unfamiliar phone numbers on his wife’s mobile device. He woke her to demand answers, which quickly escalated into a heated argument.
Neighbors recounted hearing loud voices and then a single gunshot shortly after 1 a.m. They rushed to the scene to find Faustina injured and crying for help.
She sustained gunshot wounds to her left inner arm and breast and was immediately taken to St. Xavier Hospital in Assin Fosu, where she is currently receiving treatment. Medical staff report that her condition is stable, though she remains traumatized by the ordeal.
Following the shooting, Wahibu Bukari fled the scene on foot and has not been apprehended. Residents believe he may have escaped to nearby towns such as Assin Fosu, Kushia, or Twifo Praso.
Authorities from the Assin Fosu Divisional Police Command have launched a manhunt and are actively gathering evidence. Investigators visited the hospital to interview the victim and are reviewing the couple’s phone records as part of the ongoing probe.
The couple had been married for a decade and are the parents of four children. Friends and neighbors expressed shock at the incident, describing the pair as generally peaceful but acknowledging recent signs of marital strain.
As of Monday morning, police have not issued an official arrest warrant but confirmed that investigations are ongoing. Authorities urge anyone with information on Bukari’s whereabouts to come forward.
