Government to recruit Agric Graduates to support farmers

The government has revealed plans of deploying about 5000 graduates spanning from various agricultural and veterinary institutions in the country to offer support to farmers. The aim of this initiative is to boost productivity and create an enabling environment for adopting modern farming techniques.
The minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku explained that the initiative is a part of the Feed Ghana Programme launched by the government to modernize agriculture and bridge the gap between research and practical farming.
In an interview with Citi Business News, Eric Opoku referred to his statement earlier on Saturday April 12, that 5000 graduates and national service personnels will be posted to farms to help farmers in implementing improved and research-based agricultural practices.
In the interview, the minister expressed optimism in bridging the gap between agricultural research and the actual practices on farms. He emphasized that graduates will play a critical role in introducing modern farming techniques to local farmers.
Eric Opoku further revealed that the country had already received 300 tonnes of rice seeds from a Korean agricultural research agency based in Ghana, KOPIA which will be subsequently distributed to farmers to boost local rice production.
“Distribution has started in the southern sector, where the farming season is currently underway. We’re also preparing to supply the northern regions when the season begins in May,” he said.
