Ghana to Host 2025 CAF African Schools Football Championship

Ghana is set to welcome the continent’s brightest young football talents as it hosts the 2025 CAF African Schools Football Championship in the capital, Accra. The tournament is scheduled to run from April 21 to 26, with all matches taking place at the newly completed University of Ghana’s Legon Sports Stadium. This is a tournament for young children both boys and girls of 12, 13 and 15 years to showcase their skills in football.
This marks the first time the prestigious youth football event is being hosted in West Africa, following successful editions in South Africa (2023) and Tanzania (2024). Legendary players Abedi Pelle and Asamoah Gyan have been selected as ambassadors for this Championship to guide the young players with their many years of experience.
The 10,000-seater Legon Sports Stadium, constructed for the 2023 African Games, will serve as the central venue for the championship.
In a statement CAF said, “The stadium’s infrastructure makes it ideal not just for hosting matches, but also for the off-pitch activities that are central to CAF’s holistic vision for youth football development.”

The stakes are high, with $300,000 in prize money awarded to the winning team, $200,000 for the runners-up, and $150,000 for the third-placed team. These funds are expected to be reinvested into school sports development in the respective countries. 46 nations participated in zonal qualifiers held from October 2024 to January 2025. The final tournament will bring together the six zonal champions, 2023 winners from Guinea, the 2024 defending champions from Tanzania, and the host nation Ghana.
The championship is a vision of CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe to equip African youth with skills that extend beyond the pitch and use football as a vehicle for education, development, and social inclusion.
Football lovers eager to witness the next generation of African stars in action on Ghanaian soil.
