According to data provided by the Ghana AIDS Commission, an estimated number of 15,290 HIV infections were recorded with 614 AIDS-related deaths in 2024.

These figures have caused an alarm, prompting an urgent response from government and health officials for equitable allocation of resources and immediate action to curb the spread of the virus.

Speaking at the launch of the 2024 HIV and AIDS Estimates and Projections on Thursday, July 3, in Accra, the deputy chief of staff at the Presidency, Nana Oye Bampoe mentioned that the data was a wake-up call for stakeholders to prioritize funding and align regional plans to improve and equalize service delivery.

“We must not overlook the sovereign reality of 12,614 AIDS-related deaths in the country. These gaps must urge us to focus on equitable resource allocation and tailored regional solutions to address the AIDS pandemic in Ghana,” she stressed.

Nana Oye further pledged the government’s dedication to ensuring adequate funding, explaining that the administration is working to explore various sources to avoid disruptions in HIV/AIDS interventions.

The current statistics show that the Greater Accra region is leading in terms of the number of HIV-infected individuals (77,821). Next is the Ashanti region with 54,824 infected individuals and the Eastern region with 42,386 infected individuals.
