Ghana Armed Forces ‘military’ aircraft goes missing en route to Obuasi

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) says its helicopter, identified as a Z-9, has gone off the radar after taking off on the morning of Wednesday, August 6, 2025. The aircraft was headed to Obuasi when contact was lost.
In a brief statement sighted by Thenewsgod.com, the Ghana Armed Forces confirmed that efforts are underway to trace the missing helicopter and re-establish communication.
“A Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) helicopter Z9 which took off this morning at 0912hrs from Accra and heading for Obuasi, is currently off the radar.
All efforts are being made to establish contact. On board were 3 crew and 5 passengers. Further details to be communicate soon,” the Ghana Armed Forces said in the press statement dated August 6, 2025.
According to initial reports, the aircraft was carrying a total of eight people—three crew members and five passengers. Authorities have not yet released the full list of individuals on board.
The Ghana Armed Forces, along with other relevant agencies, are expected to provide further updates as investigations continue.
In a related development, several local media outlets have reported a military helicopter crash at Adansi Sikaman in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, saying the four individuals have died.
The victims, who are yet to be officially identified, are believed to be top government officials traveling to a programme in Obuasi.
Sources say the reported helicopter crash at Obuasi involves Defence Minister, Dr. Omane Boamah, and three others, currently unknown, whether they are government officials or personnel in the military.
The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of August 6, 2025. Eyewitnesses described the scene as horrific, with the helicopter reportedly catching fire upon impact.
