GFA Congress approves three-term limit for presidency

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has approved an amendment made to it statutes which extends the term limit for its president to three terms from two.
The resolution was reached at the association’s 31st Ordinary Congress held at the Ghanaman Soccer Center of Excellence in Prampram on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.
According to Article 31(2) of the GFA Statutes (2019), the congress is supposed to be held each year to review progress, submit financial and activity reports and project strategic directions for sports in the country, before a new football season commences.
Delegates from all the 124 member bodies of the GFA were in attendance to deliberate on key governance issues.
The new amendment which also aligns with FIFA statutes and that the Confederation of African Football (CAF)of gives the current president of the GFA Kurt Okraku another chance to run for a third term in office which would total 12 years in all.
GFA justifies that the change is necessary to promote stability and continuity in leadership for implementation of long-term goals.
