GES Reinstates PTAs in All Pre-Tertiary Schools

PTA meeting
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially reinstated Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) in all pre-tertiary institutions across the country, following a directive from President John Dramani Mahama.
A statement issued by the Service on Thursday, July 17, and signed by its Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, confirmed the development. The GES has instructed heads of all Public Senior High, Technical, and STEM schools to begin implementing the directive immediately.
“The Management of GES has instructed all Heads of Public Senior High, Technical and STEM Schools to operationalise the reinstatement of PTAs with immediate effect,” the statement read.
The GES provided a reason for this reinstatement, stating that this development aims to strengthen stakeholder collaboration in the education sector. The GES also noted that the active participation of parents, teachers, and communities is crucial to ensure that learners are provided with quality education.
“This move is aimed at strengthening the collaboration and involvement of parents, communities, and teachers in the delivery of quality education to Ghanaian learners,” the statement said.
In addition, the operations of PTAs will be governed by comprehensive guidelines, which will be released soon. These guidelines will provide the structure of the association, define its roles, and establish clear mechanisms for financial accountability.
GES added that these measures are designed to ensure transparency, consistency, and operational efficiency across all PTAs nationwide.
It concluded by calling on all stakeholders to support the effective rollout of the policy, describing the reinstatement as a crucial step in advancing inclusive and participatory education management in the country.
