Fuel prices to go down at pumps from April 16

According to the pricing outlook report which guides the price quotes of Oil Marketing Companies, prices of petroleum products are expected to reduce marginally at the pumps form Wednesday April 16, 2025.
Petrol or super is expected to go down by 1.5%, reflecting at a price of GH₵14.88 per litre at the pumps.
Diesel is also expected to reduce by 0.3% and sell at GH₵15.50 at the pumps.
One kilogram of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) will also go down by 0.3%, to sell at GH₵17.45.
This reduction if complied by the OMCs will be the fifth consecutive decline in prices of petroleum products from February 2025.
Continuous reduction in price of crude oil on the international market in the last few weeks has influenced the projected decline.
Crude oil which previously sold at US$72 per barrel few weeks ago has now dropped to around US$64 a barrel.
Finished petroleum products have also seen a reduction in price on the international market.
Diesel and LPG on the other hand plunged significantly to 3.72% and 9.61% respectively.
The implications of these price changes in the Ghanaian market should have led government officials and transport operators to the negotiating table on reduction in transport fares.
Contrary to that, officials of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) told news outlets that reduction in fuel prices does not guarantee a reduction in transport fares, as there are other variables at play. They mention prices of spare parts and cost of insurance as major factors.
The union also revealed that transport fares could only be reduced if fuel prices drop to GH₵12 per litre at the pumps.
