Family and Fans Mark 7 Years Since the Passing of Ebony

Over the weekend, February 8 marked exactly seven years since we lost one of Ghana’s most talented and beloved music icons, Ebony Reigns. The nation still remembers the electrifying dancehall queen whose voice, energy, and fearless artistry reshaped the music industry before her life was tragically cut short in a car accident on the Sunyani-Kumasi highway in 2018.

Ebony was a vibrant and energetic entertainer who took the nation by storm with her bold personality, powerful stage presence, and exceptional talent that quickly earned her a place among industry giants. She took the Ghanaian music industry by storm with hit songs like Sponsor, Hustle, Maame Hwe, Poison, and Kupe, among others. These timeless tunes continue to receive massive airplay due to their undeniable quality and appeal. Ebony’s distinct style of music and bold fashion sense readily made her a household name and set her apart from her peers.

Following her passing, Ebony made history as the first-ever female artist to win the prestigious award of Artist of the Year at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), now Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA). This win was a bold, revolutionary moment for women and young girls in the music industry, and it sent a strong statement that women are just as capable of achieving big feats in the industry.

Over the weekend on 8th February 2025, the late Ebony’s family organized a memorial service in honour of her memory and to commemorate 7 years since her tragic passing. Fans and loved ones convened at the Osu cemetery in Accra to pay their respects and celebrate the legacy of the beloved artist. They adorned her resting place with flowers and shared a few words of her memory.

Undoubtedly, Ebony remains one of the most influential musicians Ghana has ever experienced. Her contributions to the Ghanaian music industry remain undefeated and the love for Ebony Reigns remains steadfast. Ebony may be gone but her impact and memory as a musical powerhouse endures.
