Ex-Central Region NDC Chairman’s Family House Collapse Kills 1 Person

The family house of a former Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Allotey Jacobs, has collapsed and killed one person.
In the early hours of Wednesday, a second-story building at Idun near Amissah Ekyir gave way, killing one woman and injuring her grandson. This comes just five days after a similar collapse claimed two lives at London Bridge.

The one-story brick structure at Amissakyir, a fishing community in Cape Coast, came down on Wednesday, around 02:00 hours, when the occupants were fast asleep and trapped two people.
The victims were swiftly rescued by a joint team of NADMO, Police and fire service personnel and rushed to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.
Unfortunately, one of the victims, seventy-four-year-old Ernestina Nduom, also known as Maame Frema, was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Her grandson, an 18-year-old man identified as Frederick, is, however, still on admission, receiving treatment.

The mayor, George Justice Arthur, personally broke the news to the grieving family. Cape Coast, a city known for its colonial architecture and crumbling charm, is now making headlines for all the wrong reasons.
Many of its buildings are decades old, held together by nostalgia and rust. The mayor has promised to demolish unsafe structures before the rains do it for him. Bold move—if only it didn’t come after three deaths in one week.
