Ewurabena Aubynn sworn in Ablekuma North MP as Minority walkout

Ewurabena Aubynn has been officially sworn in as the new Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ablekuma North Constituency following her historic win in the recent by-election.
Her swearing-in, which took place in Parliament on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, was marked by a notable absence; the Minority Caucus staged a walkout in protest.
The Minority MPs exited the chamber shortly before the oath was administered, signaling their discontent over what they described as electoral violence and irregularities during the rerun. Despite their absence, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, proceeded with the swearing-in ceremony, declaring Aubynn duly elected.
Aubynn’s victory is particularly significant as it marks the first time the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has won the Ablekuma North seat, traditionally considered a stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In the rerun held earlier this month in the Abelkuma North constituency, Ewurabena Aubynn emerged victorious with 34,090 votes, narrowly edging out the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Akua Afriyie, who secured 33,881 votes.

In a brief remark after taking the oath, Ewurabena Aubynn expressed her gratitude to the constituents and promised to offer effective representation in Parliament. “I’m here to serve the people of Ablekuma North and to be their voice in shaping national policy,” she stated.
