EOCO To Investigate Two NDC Executives Cited In Galamsey Allegations

Attorney General, Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine
The Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, has instructed the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to launch an investigation into two executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over alleged involvement in illegal mining activities.
In a letter dated July 15 and addressed to EOCO, Deputy Attorney-General Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine directed the office to invite Mr. Yakubu Abanga and Mr. Joseph Yamin for questioning, based on what he described as credible recent reports.
The letter also urged EOCO to expand its investigations to include any other individuals found to be involved in illegal mining operations.
“The scope of this investigation should include the matters highlighted in Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s report on illegal mining,” the letter stated.
EOCO has additionally been granted the authority to engage the Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission to support the investigative process.
The move follows claims by some small-scale miners who have accused NDC National Organiser Joseph Yamin and Third Vice Chairman Yakubu Abanga of backing a rogue anti-galamsey taskforce alleged to be harassing licensed miners.
