American rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs has filed a defamation lawsuit against NBCUniversal, Peacock TV, and Ample Entertainment, seeking $100 million in damages. The lawsuit asserts that the recent documentary, “Diddy: The Making of a Bad Boy,” levels untrue and scandalous allegations about him.
Litigated in the New York state court, the lawsuit argues that the said documentary paints a false and negative picture of Diddy as a serial murderer and sexual predator. Diddy’s legal team argues that these accusations are groundless and malicious.
The documentary, which premiered on Peacock in January 2025, captured interviews with individuals, including singer AI B. Sure! As well as attorney Ariel Mitchell-Kidd. The documentary delves into accusations against Diddy, who is presently facing federal charges, including sex trafficking and racketeering.
Diddy’s legal team claims that the documentary advances unfounded conspiracy theories, giving the impression that he was involved in the deaths of associates like his ex-partner, Kim Porter, and rapper Christopher “Biggie” Wallace. Diddy’s attorneys emphasize that authorities have ruled these deaths as either natural or unsolved, with no substantial evidence tying Diddy to the case.
The lawsuit further refutes the documentary’s suggestion that Diddy indulged in sexual acts with underage persons. Diddy’s legal team asserts these allegations are rooted in questionable lawsuits and uncorroborated claims from unknown sources. Diddy’s legal team claims that NBCUniversal and the production company were neglecting journalistic prudence and instead upheld sensationalism at the expense of the well-being and reputation of their client, Diddy.
Erica Wolff, Diddy’s attorney, claimed, “NBCUniversal Media, LLC, Peacock TV, LLC, and Ample LLC chose to line their own pockets at the expense of truth, decency, and basic standards.” She further stated that the defendants “maliciously and recklessly broadcast outrageous lies” without regard for the truth or Combs’ right to a fair trial.
Currently incarcerated in Brooklyn at the Metropolitan Detention Center, Diddy pleaded not guilty to the federal charges against him and is set for trial in May. Diddy’s attorneys argue that the documentary can potentially sway jurors in favor of the prosecution and ultimately compromise his right to a fair trial.
NBCUniversal and the other defendants have not publicly commented on this latest development.
