Dafeamekpor, 4 others sworn in Ghana reps to Pan-African Parliament

Ghana’s new delegation to the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) has been sworn in officially to represent the country’s commitment to legislative dialogue and integration on the continental stage.
The delegation consists of Members of Parliament for South Dayi, Klottey-Korle, Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Rockson-Nelson Etse Kwami Dafeamekpor, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, and Frank Annoh-Dompreh, respectively.
At the swearing-in presided over by the President of PAP, Chief Fortune Charumbira, the delegation was made to take an oath of office at the fifth Ordinary Session of the Sixth Parliament of the Pan-African Parliament in Midrand, South Africa, with all protocols being observed.
The MPs are now expected to join in deliberating and discussing issues concerning the continent with their counterparts from other African Union (AU) member countries. Some of these issues include peace and security, youth empowerment, climate action, and trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
The Ghanaian delegation joins the Pan-African Parliament with a strong mix of legal knowledge, public health advocacy, and legislative experience. Stakeholders have praised the appointment, describing it as one to strengthen Ghana’s role in advancing democracy and development across the continent.
Mr. Rockson Dafeamekpor brings to PAP a decade-long legal background in constitutional and legal acumen. Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings will serve the parliament with her experience in health and environmental matters, which also aligns with PAP’s focus on sustainable development.
And seasoned legislator and Minority Chief Whip of Ghana’s Parliament, Mr. Annoh-Dompreh, is expected to offer his experience in strengthening all institutional processes.
The Pan-African Parliament has it headquarters in South Africa, established as an organ of the African Union. It is a platform used for parliamentarians in Africa to deliberate on issues of common interest within its member states. It also offers advisory opinions on AU policies and objectives.
Ghana has been a member of PAP since its establishment in 2004, actively playinga key roles in shaping the AU’s Vision 2063.
