Daddy Lumba passes away at 60
Ghana is mourning the loss of one of its most iconic musical figures, Charles Kojo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, who has reportedly passed away in the early hours of Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the Bank Hospital in Accra, where he had been receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness.
The legendary Highlife musician, whose career spanned over three decades, left an indelible mark on Ghana’s music industry and culture.
Born on September 29, 1964, in Nsuta, Daddy Lumba rose from humble beginnings to become one of Africa’s most celebrated musicians.
His musical journey began in the early 1980s when he co-founded the group Lumba Brothers with his close friend Nana Acheampong.
Their debut album, “Yereye Aka Akwantuo Mu,” was an instant success and laid the foundation for Lumba’s illustrious solo career.
Over the years, he released more than 30 albums, with countless hit songs like “Aben Wo Ha,” “Theresa,” “Playboy,” and “Tokrom.”
His music was known for its rich Highlife rhythms, poetic lyrics, and sometimes controversial themes, all of which made him a household name across Ghana and among the diaspora.
