Children’s support fund raises ₵3.5m, $20k for helicopter crash victims

The Children’s Support Fund, set up to care for children who lost their parents in the August 6 helicopter crash, has so far raised GH₵3,576,600 and $20,000 in donations.
An update released on Friday, August 29, confirmed that the contributions made between August 19 and 28 came from both organizations and private citizens.
Institutions that have supported the fund include Ghana Airport Company Limited, ARB Apex Bank PLC, STL Foundation, Olam Agric, Fidelity Bank, ADB Bank, GLICO General Insurance, and the National Insurance Commission.
In addition, individuals such as Kennedy Hedoe, Peter Adongo, Mensah Michael, Appaul Wiredu Lateef, Samuel Hodalor, and Dauda Iddi have also made donations.
The initiative is being coordinated by Dr. Valerie Sawyerr, Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs. She explained that the fund is designed to provide long-term welfare support for the children affected by the tragedy.
Dr. Sawyerr further noted that donations are still being received through dedicated Stanbic Bank Ghana accounts, with weekly updates issued to ensure accountability and transparency.
The August 6 crash claimed the lives of Defence Minister Dr. Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, along with three prominent individuals and three servicemen.
