BoG suspends Cedi@60 launch amid aircraft crash killing govt officials

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has indefinitely postponed the national launch of the Cedi@60 anniversary celebrations, originally scheduled for Friday, August 8, 2025.
The decision comes in the wake of Wednesday’s tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight individuals: five senior government officials and three personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Central Bank confirmed the cancellation, saying: “We regret to announce that the launch has been postponed.”
The commemorative event, which was scheduled to be held at the Accra International Conference Centre, was expected to mark 60 years since the introduction of Ghana’s national currency, the cedi.
The Bank of Ghana also extended its condolences, saying, “The Bank extends its deepest condolences to His Excellency the President of the Republic, the Government and People of Ghana and the families of the departed.”
The statement concluded with an appeal for understanding from the public and stakeholders.
