Black Queens rank 67th in FIFA ranking despite WAFCON performance
The Black Queens of Ghana experienced a significant drop in the latest FIFA ranking despite their outstanding performance in the just-ended Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Th team dropped by one place from the previous 66th position to 67th in FIFA’s update released on Thursday, August 7, 2025.
The Black Queens however, maintained their sixth spot on the continent after emerging 3rd in the WAFCON held a month earlier in Morocco.
The Ghanaian side made it to the semi-finals for the first time since 2018, beating defending champions South Africa to return home with a bronze medal.
The drop in rankings has raised eyebrows especially given the team’s strong showing at the tournament; where they finished ahead of continental heavyweights like Zambia and Morocco, who placed fourth and third respectively.
Nigeria maintained the number one spot after clinching their 10th WAFCON title.
