The Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has commissioned a 17-member committee with hopes of revamping the declining state of Kumawood in the Ashanti region.
The committee, chaired by Bishop Ofori-Adu, has been tasked with developing an operational framework that would reinvigorate the local film industry and provide continuous employment opportunities for industry stakeholders.
In addition, this committee has been tasked with the responsibility to assess the local film industry and determine the main stumbling blocks, formulate strategies and policies to attract foreign investment and draw an actionable game plan to promote Ghanaian films both locally and internationally. The committee is also expected to develop a strategy to strengthen film infrastructure by providing more training opportunities and improving production facilities.
Also, the Minister encouraged the committee to be fueled by creativity and innovation suggesting an elevation of film festivals, cultural exhibitions and celebrating Ghanaian storytelling and creativity. He also urged promoting collaboration among stakeholders to create more opportunities for filmmakers, actors, directors, and other stakeholders.
The committee includes representatives from various sectors of the film industry. Veteran actors Oheneyere Mercy Asiedu and Bill Asamoah are part of this committee. With the wealth of experience they have in the film industry, they are expected to help steer the affairs of this committee in order to achieve set goals.
