AngloGold Ashanti said on Friday that its second-quarter profit surged 151% due to record gold prices and higher output, allowing the company to double its quarterly dividend.
The gold miner’s headline earnings for the three months ended June 30 were $639 million, up from $255 million a year earlier.
During the quarter, AngloGold Ashanti’s gold production grew by 21% to 804,000 ounces, with strong contributions from Ghana’s Obuasi mine, Tanzania’s Geita mine, and Egypt’s Sukari mine, in which it bought a 50% stake last year.
