WASSCE students of Agona Swedru SHS suspended over ‘gay’ proposal

Agona Swedru Senior High School has suspended twenty-five final-year students indefinitely for their suspected involvement in a fight over a same-sex partnership proposal.
The school official said the altercation started after one male student allegedly proposed a romantic relationship to another male student, who declined.
The student who declined the proposal is believed to have notified his colleagues, who reportedly advised him to accept the idea and draw the other student into a trap.

On the day of the planned meeting, a group of students who appeared to be friends of the student being proposed to ambushed and physically assaulted the student making the proposal.
In revenge, the assaulted student allegedly informed his dormitory mates, leading to a reprisal attack.
The situation quickly turned into a fight involving several students, causing the school to take disciplinary action.
Agona Swedru SHS’s headmistress, Mrs. Golda Esi Andam, confirmed the news to local media, saying that all 25 students were given a fair hearing before the suspension.

She added, “These students will write their final exams under the escort of their parents,” she said. “They have now realized that the Ghana Education Service (GES) does not joke with its code of conduct.”
The headmistress highlighted that while students are being disciplined, their right to education is not denied. Mrs. Andam advised all students to abide by the school’s rules and regulations to avoid future incidents.
