38-year-old woman arrested for stealing week-old baby in Wa market

The Upper West Regional Police Command has arrested a 38-year-old woman, Abena Martha Maanibeh, for allegedly stealing a week-old baby boy and the belongings of the child’s mother, Ms. Kwofie Mwinbelle, in Wa, Upper West
According to Regional Commander DCOP Darko Offei Lomotey, Maanibeh acted as a patient’s caretaker at the Wa Regional Hospital. She befriended Ms. Mwinbelle, who had just delivered her baby on August 1, and patiently gained the trust of the baby’s mother (Ms. Kwofie Mwinbelle).
On August 10, Maanibeh convinced the unsuspecting mother to accompany her to the Wa market to buy diapers. Once there, she abstained with the newborn baby and Ms. Mwinbelle’s handbag, which contained a mobile phone, cash, and other valuables.
The Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service investigated the case, which led to Maanibeh’s arrest at her hideout at Nuobille Community in the Savannah Region on August 15. Thankfully, the baby was found in good health and reunited with his mother.
